This is the second year we've carried Knock Out at
our nursery. However, very few of our retail customers even noticed it, or
asked for it, until this year immediately following all of the
publicity.
Knock Out is a nice rose; but, there are a lot of
nice roses out there equally good.
I believe the difference in selling is due to us,
garden writers/communicators. Our customers show up with torn out magazine
pages looking for the latest: very few show up with a rose book (one once
showed up with a quaint little thing written by a chap named Doug
Green.)
Re hybrid teas being "classed" as
annuals.
Mark Bucknell of Rambling Rose Nursery (US Zone 4)
tells me they have very little problems overwintering their hybrid teas. Proper
cultural practices, which many homeowners (yardeners perhaps?) don't do, should
see them through.
