Re: Self publishing
The publishing industry is going through a revolution of sorts, due to the
internet. Only 20% of books are bought in bookstores today. I have learned
that...
most all book publishers simply eat up and spit out authors. If your book
hits big then you get some attention if not they will drop you like a
flaming piece of fudge . The resources publishers will devote to promoting
your book will be scant and they will ask you to get out there and sell the
book.
So as long as you will have to sell the book yourself you might as well get
all the money. The internet has changed everything you can sell your book
right off your site and promote the book yourself for years and years. I
was able to have my new book printed for $3.50 a copy 224 pages 4 color
cover, perfect bound, I had one thousand printed at booksjustbooks.com
(prices are good here) I sell the book by mail for $22.00. I avoid
bookstores as they want 40% off and distributors want about 60% off, so I
just sell it myself online and get 100%. If you go with a distributor don't
sign a contract that says they can return left over books, what happens is
they will order 5,000 books and you will be thrilled and mortgage your house
to pay the printer then 4,800 of them are sent back and your out the
shipping cost. And then you notice that the fine print says they can hold
your money for 24 months (happened to me with my first book and in that time
they went bankrupt) just incase you end up owing them anything.
