Gardens in Kansas City?

Hello all:

I find myself in a position to possibly be in Kansas City at the end  
of August for a few days. Anyone from this list well acquainted with  
the city, and are there any gardening/horticultural wonders I should  
be looking at visiting and writing about for my markets?

Thanks so much for any feedback. I'm a total coast-girl so the thought  
of visiting the heartland for my first real adventure into the great  
USA has me intrigued but slightly overwhelmed.
