Re: Re RoundUp?

Hi Jeff,
I have been battling a ferocious invasion of goutweed (Aegopodium) that came
into my yard along with other "gifts" from a very knowledgeable gardener who
shall remain nameless. Last summer, I covered it with cardboard and weeds,
etc. (to disguise the cardboard). The year before I covered it with black
plastic garbage bags. This spring the goutweed was still there, rarin' to
go.

So I went to my local Ace and bought a small spray bottle of Round Up,
applied it to the leaves on a rare windless day in April at a distance of
about 3-4 inches. Some dieback but decided it needed a second application,
and more progress ensued. Now I no longer feel overwhelmed. I pull some
leaves that I see (knowing full well that the roots are still there,
probably going down 12 inches deep) and put black pots and flats over other
plants that are at the back of the border and not visible to the street, but
the situation is better than it was.

My next door neighbor, a landscape architect, had her crew dump bags and
bags of topsoil on the goutweed in her backyard several years ago. The
goutweed eventually grew through the bags of soil and some plants are
blooming right now.

I'm not planning to give birth any time soon
See you in Indy.

Carolyn Ulrich
