Re: AHS Humidity

I use the USDA zones as a very basic reference. I always emphasize that there is nohumidity zone map, and that makes a huge difference in plant selection here in Georgia's zone 7a/b. High evening temperatures and humidity are instant death for plants that are appropriate selections, according to the USDA map.

Dear Cathy,

I use the Heat Zone may all the time and have posted the link to the AHS
Heat Zone Map many times in my BTA HortiCulture B2B monthly Newsletter.
I never see this information on plant tags and further more do not see
reference to the heat zone information in the description of a plants
characteristics from the breeders.
There is an opportunity with the new Smart Phone QR Code Plant Labels to
include much more information such as the ARS heat Zone information.

I'm wondering how many of you use the AHS Heat Zone information in your
writings and presentations. Do gardeners want (or understand) the numbers if
you provide them? Are you finding that plant tags carry the information?

You can reply to me off-list at bloominggourmet@mchsi.com

Thanks for your input. Stay cool in this heat wave!

Cheers,
Cathy
