Rosa multiflora - the thing that wouldn't die
That is one tough customer. Spurred on by the posting on this list, we
tried to eradicate a spontaneous "seedling" yesterday. Not only had it
firmly rooted itself and grown like a bionic thing, but also seeded itself
and was coming up in other places in my front yard, where almost nothing
else can grow because of the Norway maple roots.
At first, I kind of liked it, as it was a total surprise, coming out of
nowhere, perhaps in some bird droppings or just in the wind. I wish I had a
digital camera so I could photograph the STUMP which is left in the ground
and share it with everyone on the list. It's got to be 7" in diameter, and
I don't think it is more than maybe 5 or 6 years old??
The root goes down so far that a very hale and hearty 29 year old man
wasn't able to pry it out of the ground. Agh.
I hope everyone is having lots of fun in the garden.....
