Re: How to tell the invasive plant story?

Larry Maupin asked:
My question to the group is have you found a way to EFFECTIVELY get this
message out? Has the topic been avoided by your editors? What works and what
doesn't? For the sake of planet earth and the air and water we require, what
can garden writers really do?

It's difficult, but you are already on the right track. Slip your message
into sidebars and narratives. Also, look for magazines that are not afraid
to tackle the tough issues. Organic Gardening used to be a good forum.
Mother Earth News is very opinionated due to former OG editors migrating
there. Gardener's Companion, from the Old Farmer's Almanac, is another
magazine that respects the planet.

Another way to find a planet-friendly magazine is to use gatherings like the
GWAA symposium to explore the editorial bias or neutrality by talking with
magazine editors. Ask "what if" questions, and do talk about those issues
you feel important. Personally, I have a couple of magazines that let me
get out my message. I write for them at a lower rate than I normally
charge, because I can say what I want. That is important to me and keeps me
sane as I write mass market stuff.
