Re: How to tell the invasive plant story?
Hello Larry,
I have been a member of several native plant societies for some years
now. I have seen them grow from a few members in a church basement to
state-wide organization in 6 or 7 years of existence. The www has truly
opened communication among like-minded individuals. Ten years ago we would
not have heard of each other... now we can do a Google.... well, this is not
about communications. Point being... we have all found each other over the
past few years and have grown both in size and depth.
I belong to the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society. They have a
color pamphlet on invasives for this area that gets a lot of distribution.
Also a slide presentation, I believe, that is available for member's
meetings. You can check out them and other links at their web site.
INPAWS.org. There is also a Kentucky Native Plant Society, but they move
around so much with their web site I can not keep up with its location.
Do look into Wild Ones Natural Landscaping if you are into native
grasses and prairies. They will mention shade on occasion, but ion general
this is a native grasses group. Lots of fun, at least on the local level. I
have not attended a national meeting as yet.Can not remember the national
web site address but the local is www.for-wild.org You can pick up the
national from there along with quite a few links to related orgs.
Having said all the above.. I am not only a native plant nut... I also
very much enjoy their related species from around the temperate world.
