English Photographer Takes Top Honors with Garden Writers’ Award

Washington, DC – June 1, 2003 – England’s John Glover, renowned around the world for his garden photography, has received the Garden Globe for Best Photography for his contribution to the serene book, Gardens for the Soul.

“The photography in Gardens for the Soul” won the Features Photography award from the Garden Writer’s Guild in England,” says Glover, “so to have won an award now on both sides of the Atlantic Is a great honor for me.”

In this new book, Glover translates into stunning photographs author Pamela Woods’ vision of how to create a garden that channels the forces of nature to energize, replenish, and even heal the one who tends it.

“Glover’s photography powerfully depicts how designing a garden is a personal and creative endeavor,” according to the book’s publisher Rizzoli International.

The book is both inspirational as well as informative, with Glover’s lush photographs accompanying graphic illustrations, helpful plans, and practical advice to aid the gardener in making a peaceful, spiritual, and comforting space to feed the soul.

“Both Pamela and I both feel that a garden can be a very personal vision of Eden for the owner,” notes Glover, “and that it can facilitate a deeper understanding of all aspects of nature.”

Glover is now one of nine finalists for the Garden Globe Award of the Year, the highest honor given a horticultural communicator. The award will be announced at the 55th annual Garden Writers Association Symposium in Chicago on August 18, 2003.

Glover has received dozens of photography awards, including the Garden Writers Association Award of Excellence in 1999, 2000 and 2001. His photographs have appeared in most of the leading garden books and magazines around the world as well as on calendars and greeting cards. His book and magazine credits include Time-Life, Reader’s Digest, Garden Design, Gardens Illustrated, Fine Gardening and Country Living Gardener.
