Title: Re: [GWL] Garden Gift Ideas
You can always find something shiny new and expensive to put under the
tree. Cheap is harder.
When my girls were very young with a couple of bucks in their pocket to go
Christmas shopping, I would prompt their mother to take them to an "antique"
store, not the kind that has a Queen Anne sideboard in the window, but what
might more appropriately be called a junk store. There they could find old
crockery, worth big money except for maybe a chip or solid crack, pots, vases,
and best of all, old garden tools better made than anything you'll find in a big
box store, all within their meagre budget.
Today, twenty years and more later, some of my most prized garden
possessions are these near-castoff gifts from my children. A geegaw from KMart
would have been lost or broken a decade or two ago.
