Wonderful..spraying all the bad stuff and keeping your fingers crossed. Not exactly what I like to hear from a garden writer.  Have you contacted your Ulster County Forrester to find out what these 'bugs' are?  Do you know that the Sevin you are using will do more environmental damage than the caterpillars since Sevin is toxic to honey bees and is a fairly non selective pesticide?  BT on the other hand is very selective against feeding Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) which by the way are not considered to be...bugs.  And, if they are Eastern Tent caterpillars...most forests can withstand a single defoliation...this caterpillar has been around for a long long time and the Catskills still seem to be fairly well forrested.  Sorry for the rant but I would have thought that a garden writer would do a bit better on the research side.
