Four seasons? Or more?

Ahem....

I live in the most southern part of Southern California and before anyone starts accusing southern Californians of seasonal ignorance, I often get calls from magazines and photographers in Massachusets, Iowa, and Pennsylvania looking for spring gardens in November and December!

We most definitely have seasons here in Southern California.  More than four seasons in fact.  They might not be rcognizeable to those outside the region, but we most definitely know what they are, even if snow doesn't cover the entire region in winter (only the mountainous areas get snow).

If you find those calls frustrating, it might help to think of them as opportunities to educate producers and greensmen rather than to criticize them.

Sounds like we could all use a bit of education.

Hi Duane --

From Law & Order: Criminal Intent tonight.

I've developed a boredom index for movies and TV: How often do I find myself
intently studying the plants in a scene because the dialog and acting are so
bad?

The winner for worst movie: "First Knight," a dreadful retelling of the
Arthurian legend. Hostas in England in 800 A.D., among other things.

Producers don't seem to have a clue, but maybe it's because they mostly live
in southern CA, which doesn't have 4 seasons.  We occasionally get calls
here at White Flower Farm from TV and movie folks looking for fields of
Tulips in July, or sunflowers in April. Movies have greensmen, whose job is
to make the set look great, and they are clearly in zone denial.

Cheers,

Renee
