I have a garden section with a number of these purpureum and and similar 
habit sedums. Personally I think Matrone is overrated. Purple Emperor is a 
much better garden plant -- better color, better habit -- though it is quite 
variable according to soil and circumstance. Purple Emperor is pretty 
strong, though any can flop under late summer storms and all will have some 
outside stems that are decumbent, more if it is overgrown. I surround all of 
them with a low circle of green clad turkey wire at the beginning of the 
season, so they can grow through it and remain upright through summer storms 
and even winter snow. Your clients probably won't want to take that effort, 
nor will they divide them regularly. I suggest you spec Purple Emperor and 
move in a couple of years without giving them your new address.

All of my sedums have crossed like crack whores and I am growing several of 
the volunteer seedlings on. Some look interesting.

Would I be correct to suggest that most everyone here would agree that 
Auturm Joy should have disappeared from the big box parking lots two decades 
ago? Along with Purple Palace heuchera.
