Re: sedum

Hi all,

I am jumping into the sedum discussion.

Jo Ellen, I have grown and grown tired of Autumn Joy. It pales in comparison to Matrona. I think
Matrona is more upright and has a much nicer color. Seems more robust as well. It is a rich
pink/rosey buff colored plant where I am (Boise ID).

My new standbys are Black Jack and Purple Emperor. They both look sensational next to Harvest Moon
echinacea and ornamental grasses. They look great next to the late season purple asters, as well.
Both have dark purple/bronze leaves and stems. The trick here is to keep them on the dry side. Too
much water and they all flop.

I pinch mine back, sometimes once a year, sometimes twice. This greatly delays the bloom period,
but doubles the number of flowers and keeps the plants at whatever height I want them to be.

Good luck,
Mary Ann Newcomer
