Re: Mac users - image software
Doug says he just talked to Dena at the Apple Store in Chicago. An
interesting young lady, she's a photography major at U of Illinois (Chicago)
and while the rest of the apple experts were stumped, this young lady smiled
and showed me the trick. If you look at iphoto, you'll see a garbage can on
the left hand nav bar (as well as the garbage can on the bottom). When you
delete an image in iphoto, it puts that image into the garbage can on the
left hand nav bar of iphoto - and NOT in the garbage can on the bottom
where all the rest of the garbage goes. This first step takes the image out
of the iphoto library but not out of the hard drive library. This
apparently is the only bit of software in Apple that does this.
So to delete an image from the hard drive you simply empty the trash on the
left hand nav bar in iphoto. It disappears forever and isn't recoverable
if you do this because it doesn't go the regular garbage can at all. Click
on the left hand nav bar garbage can in iphoto - be prepared to wait a few
minutes while it loads up the images (if you've been deleting a lot of
images, you may find it takes a while) Once the pictures are visible,
right click (control click) and a question will come up asking you if you
want to clear the trash - you get one warning after you click yes but then
you whack 'em off your drive. I note that I trashed over 7400 images
tonight and gained a ton of space on the hard drive. :-)
Having answered that question, Dena was good enough to pass along a few
other tricks of organization to this terminally disorganized writer.
Appreciated her efforts immensely.
I also note that Dani was looking for an internship experience to get some
"real world" experience. She's a senior and is getting set to enter the
world of photography. If anybody can use a photography intern, drop me a
note off line and I'll pass along her email. If I could have used her, I
would have in a heartbeat.
All the best
Doug
