Re: A UK plant ID



Thanks for the offers to help. It's been ID'ed by Kathryn, Carlo and  
Kate (sight unseen!) as Sisyrinchium striatum, native to Chile and  
hardy to USDA zones 7 or 8. It was blooming in Hyde Park and Russell  
Square on May 24. It was a bit past it at that point. Full sun in  
London, and I'm told the plant likes dryish urban soils and self sows.

P.S.: Other plants unknown to me, now ID'ed, were Cistus, Ceanothus,  
Convolvulus cneorum and some tender Philadelphus and roses. I went to  
Wisley, Kew, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Chelsea twice. I'm still  
dazed by the glory of it all.
