plant selection question
I'm late to the party, Dan, but what about foliage plants? I have a shady garden, so I depend a lot on them. Ferns--esp varieties of Japanese Painted Fern. All those wonderful, colourful heucheras. (Yeah, they have flowers, but they seem to appear before the bugs--and are easily cut off.) Scent-leaved geraniums (no flowers there, usually, but beautiful texture and scent). Hostas, of course. Baby Japanese maples, which aren't too expensive (or bigger ones if she has $$$). Brunneras. Plants w variegated leaves. Ornamental grasses.
All that stuff should be safe, and fun to play around with.
