Re: GWL groundhogs, rats and city slickers

We once had a groundhog dig between our wood siding and the concrete
steps in order to hang out in our dirt-floored crawlspace, so I know they
can make a real mess. The old folk remedy of scattering mothballs works:
We've used them to deter mice and flying squirrels for ages. With a
little thought, you can keep them out of the reach of pets (we only use
them in sheds, the cellar, and attic), but I don't recommend using this
if there are children or grandchildren around. Mothball "socks" made out
of old stockings can be hung from rafters, a nail, etc.

People don't like the smell either :-) and they shouldn't be used in your
living space.

Lois
