FW: The Early March JSS Update

Thought you all would like to see Rob Johnston's nice little newsletter.
Since he's probably too modest to post it to the list.

The Early March Johnny's Selected Seeds Update from Rob Johnston, Founder

Dear Gardener,

Hasn't this been an unusual winter? The average annual snowfall in Albion
-
our small Maine town - is about 70 inches. So far through February, we have

had only 43 inches of snow, and very little rain. Of course, it could snow
big
time in March, and we are hoping for lots of precipitation. Maine is
presently
in a ground water deficit, and our irrigation ponds are very low. Most of
the
Eastern US is suffering from drought - here's a link to some of the drought
data:

Hey, nice website!

Check out the new Johnny's website:

We wanted to make it quick and easy to find things, and easy to shop. Visit

and tell us what you think.

Grow salads in your kitchen.

Even though you might not be harvesting from your own garden for a while,
you
can grow your own fresh sprouts anytime you want, year round, indoors. It
is
easy, the sprouts are good for you, and there are a variety of tastes. We
sell
a smartly designed but simple gadget, called a Bioset, that makes home
sprouting
easy as pie…
<http://www.johnnyseeds.com/catalog/bioset-em.html> …and here are seeds you
can
sprout in the Bioset sprouter:

Beat that flu bug.

Did you know you can grow your own Echinacea for immune system support?
It's
not hard, and drying and/or tincturing the roots and leaves is easy, too.
Here
are organically grown seeds for the easiest Echinacea to grow, E. purpurea:

And you can read up on making your own medicines in this very cool book:

…and here's my favorite family herbal:

Seed Starting

Who named Johnny's Organic Soil Mix? It's actually soil-less. Johnny's
Organic
Soil Mix is made from 100% organic ingredients and is peat moss based. It's
what
Johnny's Farm Manager, Brian Milliken, uses in the greenhouses here in
Albion,
meaning many of our seed productions, trial plantings, and nurseries get
their
start from this mix. Think about using Johnny's Organic Soil Mix as you
start
your seedlings and container gardens this spring.

Great Watering Can

My favorite big 14-quart watering cans are beautifully designed and made by

Guillouard in France. If you have a gardener with a birthday coming up,
here's
your opportunity to get them something really special.

Coming up…

I'll be writing to you again as spring progresses. Your support means a
lot
to all of us at Johnny's.

Thanks,
 Rob Johnston
 Founder and Chairman
