"Serial" includes newspapers
Brook says the word "serial" as in "serial rights" does not include
newspapers. My understanding is that "serial" means explicitly
newspapers and magazines (as well as other "serial" publications like
them). This is the first time I have ever hear the claim that "serial"
does not include newspapers.
My desktop dictionary (Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 10th
edition, page 1068) also thinks "serial" includes newspapers.
Definition #1 is not applicable. Definition #2 reads: ": a
publication (as a newspaper or journal) issued as one of a consecutively
numbered and indefinitely continued series"
