A prime communicator of this information is Dr. Elaine Ingham, who
developed the techniques for measuring quantitatively the fungi,
bacteria, protozoa, and nematodes in compost and soils. I had
recommended her to be a speaker at GWAA Region III meeting in
Indianapolis, but, to my knowledge, it never went anywhere. She'd be
a terrific speaker at National. . . and it's in her neck of the woods
this year. (Meeting is in Seattle, she's in Corvallis, Oregon, when
she isn't in Australia, or South Africa, or New York, or Georgia, or
North Carolina. . . )
I agree with you, Jeff. Understanding the soil foodweb and the
application of compost teas can eliminate/reduce chemical
applications for any purpose, whether it be fertilization or reducing
"Pests" to tolerable levels, will revolutionize how we garden and
take care of our yards.
