Re: Philadelphia Flower Show
To the group:
GWA has had a Region 2 meeting at the Philadelphia Flower Show for the
last five years. It's been a testament to the power of this organization to
see how the attendance has grown every one of those years. We started with
attendance around 35! In addition to Pam this year, GWA has always been
indebted to the coordination and cooperation of the large on-site staff of
the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Jane Pepper leads an awesome group
of dedicated professionals.
For those of you who couldn't attend, Region 2 has another unique
opportunity to network at a "world class" site in May. Doug Oster has
assembled the details of wonderful tour with his committee in the greater
Pittsburgh area. We're touring Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater along with
a wildflower walk at Ferncliff and a tour of Oglevee Breeders. Lunch is
provided along with a coctail hour at Fallingwater. I talked to Doug in
Philly and he assured me that there are ample opportunities for side trips.
My family is making plans to attend because my oldest is visiting schools in
the Pittsburgh area and planning to stay around for a general tour of the
area. There is another FLW mansion in the area that can be visited on a
short side-trip from Fallingwater. That site has a much better garden.
For info, you can check out the regional meeting site on GWAA.org or (if
it isn't up yet) write Doug at doster@post-gazette.com.

Subject: [GWL] Philadelphia Flower Show
GWA Region 2 had a wonderful gathering/meeting at the Philadelphia
Flower Show last Monday. Pam Stenger from Brookside Gardens did a great
job with the set-up, speakers and food. The attendance was high -
seemed like 125-150 GWA members and a few guests were in the room. If
region 2 does this again in '04, it's worth the trip to come in to see
the show during the early morning hours, before it opens to the public.
Thanks Pam and committee for putting this together for us!
