As Andrew did, I also subscribed for one year to The Gardener. I didn't renew, principally for two reasons. I found the articles to be very basic, seemingly designed for the absolute novice. And, the articles seemed to cover plants that would grow within driving distance of White Flower Farms. It was a great publication for a brand-new gardener in zone 5b, or whatever that part of Connecticut is, but for these reasons its scope and depth was severely limited.
I am also put off by the philosophy of "no advertising sullies our pages" but that is probably just a matter of taste.
