RE: Re. Who's the Audience

I guess I must be a "baby" in the world of gardening at 34. Hmmm...no wonder
all the ladies and men in the four garden clubs I belong to are all closer
to 50 and over.

I gave a talk on night blooming plants on Wednesday night. We had 20 guests
at the talk, at least seven of them were brand new garden club members who
heard about the meeting and showed up "on the spur of the moment" they said.

I took a survey, only 11 people filled it out, but many of them were the
'new' members. Here is what I found out relating to experience. 7 were
beginning gardeners (some looked younger than me!), 3 considered themselves
to be intermediate gardeners and only 1 considered themselves to be
advanced.

I asked for suggestions to improve the presentation. I had 1 person make one
and they wanted more photos. Afterwards four of the newbies, 2 younger, 2
older came up and purchased plants and seeds - Angel Trumpets. They had
never grown them before and had many questions.

I also sent around a sign-up sheet for PAR for a free tomato plant, lettuce
seeds and radish seeds to help encourage people to plant. 3 people signed up
- they were all 3 newbies.

So, I say don't give up hope. I have belonged to the clubs for 3 years now.
This was the biggest new member turnout we have had.
