Fellow garden writers:
I had the opportunity to lead a similar trip with this not-for-profit group a few years ago and it was a wonderful journey through fascinating historical and literary sites, beautiful gardens and a little shopping thrown in. I loved it, and it generated more than a half-dozen stories and dozens of photos for presentations. It also give you the ability to draw on the experience of observing how another country's gardens.
Here's the itinerary for this year.
The International Cultural Exchange, a not-for-profit organization in Plainfield, Ind., is sponsoring its third garden tour to England May 23 to June 5. This year the tour will take the Eurostar to Paris to visit the City of Lights, Monet's Garden, the Chateau de Versailles, Notre Dame and other famous sites.
In England, of course, the Chelsea Flower Show is on the itinerary, as is Wisley, home of the Royal Horticultural Society, Hampton Court, Hatfield House, Capel Manor College of Horticulture, Oxford, including the must-see Oxford Botanic Garden, Hidcote Manor, Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford, Thomas Hardy's home, Minterne Gardens, Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst Garden, home of Vita Sackville West.
From Indy, the fee is $2,690, double occupancy. Quotes available from ICE for airfare from other cities. The fee includes two meals a day (one in London and Paris), airfare from Indianapolis, transfers and ground transportation, lodging in tourist class hotels, sightseeing and and seminars. For more information, please call Jean Davis at (317) 839-9257, or E-mail, iseice@aol.com.
