Tropical Trends

Fewer tropicals seen at Philly flower show
Are tropical plants on their way out? That was the gist of a Wall Street Journal article after the big Philadelphia Flower Show. "Among the more than two dozen lavishly landscaped exhibits at the largest annual flower show in the U.S., attendees were hard-pressed to find any of the banana trees, giant elephant ears, cannas, caladiums and other tropical plants that have been a staple of the gardening world the past few years," the Journal reported. Many of the displays, though, harkened back to another era of gardening, featuring stately delphiniums and snapdragons as well as diminutive primroses and common yellow daffodils.
