Naming of Names

Here's an amateur's perspective, and this may be old publishing news for
most of you, but I recently enjoyed reading Anna Pavord's _The Naming of
Names_.

Since I'm not encumbered by any botanical training, I've always wanted to
read this kind of narrative about the history of nomenclature.

Plus, the publishing values in the book are great. There are 159
illustrations, and for me the plates alone were worth the price of
admission. But that's not to take anything away from Pavord's narrative,
which is really engaging history.

At any rate, her book was my best winter read, and I was joyful that a book
of this quality is still rolling out. I'm also oblivious about what Garden
Writers' recognition it may have received.
