This explains the sudden invasion of snow fleas here along the IL-WI border. 
I thought Doug sent them as a gift!

We had a very warm autumn; snow arrived suddenly and continued until last 
week.  Trees still held their leaves throughout most of the winter, plant 
debris was never removed due to the feet of snow that fell after 70F days 
and roses in full bloom were ice sculptures all winter.

I owe you an apology, Doug.  I thought you were getting back at me for 
southern charm. :-)
