Re: "Invitation to Flora's Blog"

Very weird! Notice the contributors include one real person who works for
Wiggly Wigglers in the UK, and Ioaanis Petrus, the very real John Peter
Thompson, an expert on invasive species. Then tehre's "flora" herself, a
common fake name for fake blogs, and some initials.
No, I didn't receive this message myself but I'll certainly forward it to
John Peter. Susan

Subject: [GWL] "Invitation to Flora's Blog"

Good winter's morning, fellow scribes.

This morning brought me a 'personal invitation' from someone calling
herself Cathy Simpson, inviting me to participate in a new blog called
The Gardeners' Blog (http://theecosystem.blogspot.com). Participating
is supposed to make my blog more popular, something she says in six
different ways; but oh yes, please add this URL/page element which
leads to an online shopping site.

Okay, so at least she's not stealing content, just wants free
advertising for some UK-based online shopping site. The interesting
thing is, the 'personal followup message' is addressed to 'Dear
Blogger', and the writing in the email is stilted in such a way as to
suggest that perhaps English isn't the writer's first language. Example:

> This would be a great privilege for us and would justify the noble
> intention behind this blog. It’s not this blog that would be
> popularized only; but I personally would take care of all the
> contributors’ blogs to popularize also.

Did anyone else get this 'personal invitation?' I won't paste the
entire content of the email in because it has one of those "this email
is intended solely for the use of the use of the addressee", but it
was probably sent to quite a number of bloggers, and I know some of
the list members have blogs.

Maybe I'm just overly suspicious and need more coffee, but I'd like to
see what others think.

cheers, jodi
