Re: Most influential blogs

I don't find GardenRant "commercialized" at all. It's intelligently
written, lively, the writers are knowledgable, the commentors often as
thought-provoking as the writers and it's not filled with
flashing .gifs, annoying music players, dancing babies and other
bandwidth-sappers. There may be ads on one side column but I don't
'see' them the same as I don't 'see' ads in a magazine or newspaper.
(shhhhh! Don't tell advertisers that there are people like me).

I'm a faithful reader of the Rant and many, many other blogs about
gardening, including those of some members of this list (waves to
Doug, Graham, Susan, Eliz, Carlo, Dee, Yvonne, etc). I read so many
because I enjoy the quality of writing, have become friends across the
miles with some other bloggers, and it's very intriguing to learn what
it's like to garden in climates far, far different from mine.

As for influential, how do you define influential? To my mind, the
most influential blogs are those that encourage others to garden more,
be better stewards of the world around them, and are positive and
amusing rather than preachy and haranguing. Can't comment about
whether any of them are cool or trendy because I'm not :-). So I just
read them because I enjoy and learn from them.

cheers, jodi
