Re: commercial blogs and other commercial writing

I'm confused. I thought we were talking about garden writing --- blogs
and columns and such. Garden writers are inherently biased for or against
certain plants right from the get-go. Does it matter? I view garden
writing as feature writing, not news reporting.

I don't write product reviews about products I don't like, just the ones
I do like, so of course I'll sing their praises. As for people, there is
a certain obnoxious, rude, self-absorbed garden writer whose books I used
to buy (but never will again) who is very popular. I would never report
on anything he did. On the other hand, there are certain garden
photographers who have been very helpful to me over the years. I'll
include them in a story where it's a good fit. I would recommend their
photos for a book or magazine article.

If a municipal news reporter is writing about an environmentally
abominable project being proposed in the next town, I want just the
facts. I don't want to read the reporter's opinion of the facts.

My 2-cents is that people relate to garden columnists or bloggers for
their point of view, or personality, etc. They couldn't tell you who
wrote the magazine article about the mechanics of tree planting and care
even less.

Regards,
Lois
