"Short Stories"

The best "short story" I heard was only four words. The background is
that a cub reporter was asked to cover the story about a lunatic who
escaped from the local asylum and raped a woman. The first draft was
way too long and sensational, and the editor demanded that he tighten
the story considerably. The second draft was shorter, but still way too
wordy. Again the young reporter was sent back to rewrite his story as
succinctly as possible. After much labor, this is what he finally
wrote: "Nut bolts and screws."
