Re bubble wrap: I've used it to make cold frames (wrap a  horizontal
cage), to supplement walls-o-water as plants get taller and nighttime
temps stay low, and as a windbreak early and late in the season (wrap
tomato cages and put them around small plants). It's a very useful
material, easy to find free in quantity, and it lasts several years.
