I don't doubt it. I've known a number of people from The Hort, and they
are indeed a merry bunch. And the PA Horticultural Society would also not
turn down a dime from outside Philadelphia, but spending a dime is
another matter.

The PA Hort spends almost no program money outside of the Deleware
Valley, and there is a general idea that anyone north of Bucks County
doesn't grow anything but potatoes. We had a small -- very small --
program here in the distant north only because two former chairs of the
society retired here, and they just cut the pennies they alocated for
that. I wanted to make a passing reference to this kind of attitude in my
column, and I wondered if it would ring true to readers in other states.
