Re: broadcasters

The best entrance to TV I've had is Plant a Row for the Hungry. I've set up
events so local TV crews could film for the nightly news and for the noon
personality shows. And, I've done live interviews with anchor people in
studios. Of course, I did this for free, because I was plugging Plant a
Row. I had two offers of a weekly 2-minute segment during gardening season,
but both TV stations could not pay. I declined, but they used me as an
expert to interview many times, and that helped to raise my stature. The
stations were very generous in giving my video clips of my work, and they
ended up as part of a public service video on Plant a Row that HGTV produced
and runs ocassionally. To sum it up, I haven't made a dime from TV, but the
appearances have added to my reputation and given me other paying work.
Once you are seen on TV as an expert, you get calls from garden centers,
packagers, publishers, clubs who want speakers and other entities that pay
nice sums of money.
My 2 cents worth,
Doreen Howard
