Re: gardenwriters Digest, Vol 64, Issue 5

Lynn

I appear to have miscommunicated my question. I honestly only wanted to know
what 'toxins' were released and under what circumstances; you knew something
that I didn't; I was seeking information. I intended nothing more by my
question.

Regarding some of your questions: we do the best we can--don't we?

We all pollute daily...
Do you drive, read a paper, use the internet? Do you hang clothes to
dry rather than use your electric/gas dryer? Do you use petroleum
based dishwashing soap, shampoo and cosmetics or do you make the
effort to find plant-based alternatives? Do you take a 5 minute
shower instead of taking a bath? Do you put buckets in your shower to
save water as you shower so you can reuse it on your plants? Do you
have rainbarrels or does rain wash down your drive to the street,
into the storm sewers and then pollute the waterways for your
watershed? Do you have a reel mower or an electric one instead of a
gas mower? Do you use solar night lighting rather than turn on garden
lights at night? Do you bike, walk or take the bus instead of
driving? Do you turn off your computer, and unplug electronics before
going to bed in a completely dark house? Do you eat only seasonal,
local and organic foods? Do you only wear natural, organic, and
locally made clothes? Have you purchased the "green option" from your
utility company, and do you not use your A. C. in the summer? How do
you vacation? Only at local eco resorts? Do you buy carbon offsets
for all you do that is not eco-friendly? I dare say most of us do
not do ALL those things and the many more that would make us "no
impact." Most of us try to do what we can.

There are MANY actions that are "serious to consider" in our daily
lives. Yet most of us still do them. I do not use the polymers as a
whim. I don't use them in my own containers but only for my business
since I know my clients will not go out and water daily. It's a
necessity for my income, as I suppose many of you would admit you use
electricity or gas, eat outside your 100 mile area, and wear other
than hemp because you must.
