master gardeners and Scotts?????

I was at a meeting yesterday and chatting with the Ext agent when she came
up with a big concern. A Scotts company person in the next county has come up
with an idea that the county, and other counties in GA, rather like. Scotts
can get us into major retail places such as Walmart and Home Depot etc. to
do talks, educate the public. To do so, they have a sponsored stand by the
chemical company - we think an outside tent - and MGs are given the Scott
remedy book (or whatever its called). What concerns the agent is that we are
partnering with a chemical agency that is directly opposed to IPM and low
toxicity first.

So I am curious as to if this is happening in other states or is Atlanta the
first. It also brings to the front the sponsorship of Scotts with the GWAA.
I know this was controversial and most of us do not endorse their products,
nor their lawn care mantra. Are we, the low chemical/organic growers,
becoming such a threat to them, and has the tide turned against chemicals to such
an extent that they are using tactics to curb us/woe us with sponsorship?

If this sounds confused, then you are right - I am totally at odds with what
is going on and why is makes good business sense to them.

Ideas anyone???
