peonies sprayed

Dear GWLers -- I just got a call from a friend in the area who has a
huge cut flower buisness, including contract work for wholesalers.
She lives in a rural setting and last Friday, her farmer/neighbor
sprayed two herbicides, including Extreme. The winds that day were
30mph or better and more than 12 rows of her prized peonies have
taken a hit from the drift of the chemicals.

She's been in touch with state and federal authorities re: not
following label instructions by spraying on a windy day, Purdue and
area extension folks. She's also spoken with a couple of other peony
growers, including Klehm's, but no one has had their crops (or
plants) sprayed w/this stuff.

I told her I'd ask to see if anyone one of us have had this
experience or perhaps some of our readers/listeners, etc., have had
this happen.

She wants to know if a peony recovered and survived to bloom again in
a year or two or were the plants goners? She was really upset and I
don't blame her. The farmer's reason was that he had a thousand acres
to do and the field adjacent to her farm was on the schedule for that
day.

Any other resources you suggest she contact, please let me know that,
too. Off-list is fine.

Thanks.

jems
