One of the most popular presentations I do is on containers, and it can run
from thirty minutes to three hours depending on the venue and how I focus.
But your question brings up the dichotomy I have mentioned before: Those who
want A garden and those who want TO garden.

For the latter group, I prefer the daily round with the hose. It gives a
real gardener a chance to socialize with each plant on a daily basis. But I
do use self watering containers (the old square Rubbermade, don't know if
they even still sell them) for my brugmansias. Still I fill the reservoir
daily. The way they drink, you'd think they were native to Ireland. I've
tried other commercial self watering containers and have not been terribly
impressed. Maybe they give you an edge, but not a solution.

I'll have to find the name of that book that has been mentioned here and
check it out to see if it is something I might incorporate into my talks to
the profoundly indolent.
