CNY Blooms at the brightly lit ONCenter in Syracuse NY is run by a competent event promoter who uses black curtains for the speaker area. Large digital projectors work great there. Carousel projectors don't work at all (if anyone still uses one) and I would guess my little digital projector wouldn't be powerful enough either. I recently gave a talk at a synagogue with clerestory windows and the audience couldn't see anything. I had specified that the room had to be dark, so they felt terrible and paid me extra!
