Re: How to Control Gound Ivy?
I'm sure that someone will tell you to just keep raking it or covering it
with a tarp to control it organically. Other than massive fire, I wouldn't
count on it. Chemcials that control it have dicamba in the formulation.
Confront is an herbicide that controls it very well. It works in the fall but
make sure your lawn is thoroughly wet. Best after a day or two of soaking
rain. Otherwise you might fry some of your grass. Borax is also
recommend...can't remember the amount but you can only ever use it once and it does
kills earthworms and other beneficials, not to mention it's not great to
breathe in either. Cut your grass high to shade it, be vigilant when blooming and
keep raking.

Hi Everyone,
A few years ago, some ground ivy sneaked in with a gift of irises from my
friend's garden. I loved its tiny flowers and it held the soil on my berm
in place so well, that I paid little attention to the fact that it had
started to creep into the lawn. Last summer I fought a losing battle with
a rock rake and hand weeding. Now it is threatening to take over the
entire lawn on one side of the house. Any suggestions about how to beat
it back without killing everything with chemicals and starting over?
Thanks,
Lois
