Research about Wood Mulch and Nitrogen

I believe I've read in a few places somewhere debunking the myth about
wood chip mulch sucking nitrogen from the soil (or that it only
affects the layer where the soil meets the chips). I can't find a link
online. Does anyone know of a resource for these conclusions, or have
I debunked the myth in my head? :)

Thank you!
