BULBS!
Customers look for daffodils and tulips in April, exactly the time of year
you can't plant them, only admire them. And fall means there's time to do a
bit of contemplating and planning, and perhaps some rearranging.
I find it easier to be ruthless in the fall, too. If some perennial is
seriously under performing, that's the time to send it to the great compost
pile in the sky. Somehow, every sprout is so full of promise in the spring,
it seems cruel to toss a plant then. Or I forget how crummy a particular
plant might have looked the previous year, and let it do the same mediocre
dance again.
