Re: [GWL]: Letting others use your photos
Hello:
We have thousands of digital photographs for just that purpose. Our goal
is to disseminate information about plants and organizations, corporations,
universities, homeowners, authors, school children etc. are all encouraged
to use the photos. If we don't have it and can get it, we shoot it for
them and then add it to our library. All we ask is a photo credit. When
they're used in the print media the recognition is advertizing we can't
afford to buy -- so it works out for everyone. Most photos are 1600 x 1200
on JPEG and a few even at 2240 x 1680 on uncompressed TIFF.
Yes, sometimes if many people want them at the same time it can be a bit
much, but for us it's worth the added effort -- just to get our name out.

I seem to remember this topic being touched upon briefly, but I don't
really remember what the consensus is.
Anyhow, I've been getting lots (up to a half dozen per day) of requests
to use some of the images in the hort.net image gallery for various
purposes. I used to give permission if it was a one-time, not-for-profit
application, but this is getting ridiculous.
Does anyone out there let others use their Web photos for free? What kinds
of restrictions do you place on usage? What criteria do the requestors
have
to meet?
