Now there is something the average person can do to affect this.
Notify the sponsors of the Miss World pagent, or any other event, such
as boxing matches, that you are boycotting their products as long as
Nigeria is used as the host country. Let them know that you do not want
to support anything that aids the country allowing the Nigerian Scammers
to continue to operate.
However, some of the contestants have said publically that their personal
mission in attending the event is to bring to international attention injustices
against women in Nigeria, specifically applicaton of Sharia law in the cases of
several women convicted of adultery, one, currently in the news, facing a
possible death penalty. This might be worth looking into in order to help these
women activists get their message out. Maybe they could add the email scams to
the agenda they will be presenting at this event.
If this is done consistently, it will send a message to the Nigerian
government that they have to stop the scammers if they want to be able
to host events that bring money into Nigeria legitimately.
We CAN stop the scammers.
