While looking in the archives recently, I noted that there is a lot more gardening material recently as opposed to garden writing.  Now don't get me wrong, Brook's question is valid and  acceptable for the list.  The problem is how to get such questions answered without going off on too much of a tangent.  
   In this case, Brook gives the method in her letter.  If you have a source for her, give the URL, book title, or other location for the material.  I presume all of us can use good references.   If you DO have something you want to discuss, Larry London has set up another list, on organic gardening, for us and the discussion can be posted there with no conflict.  I presume Larry will re-post the information on how to get on that list for all those who want it.
   This way, you can have your gardening discussion with the same people on this list, but without filling the GWL archives with material that may not be completely relevant.

Subject: [GWL] Tires In The Garden


I'm researching the use of tires in the garden for growing things like
potatoes. Somebody cautioned me that this practice is now in disrepute
because metals leach out of the tires and can contaminate the vegetables.

Does anybody know of any studies dealing with this? I'd appreciate learning
the straight skinny.
