Re: agents
Editors set policies about accepting manuscripts only from agents so that
they won't have to deal with amateurs--the agents screen them out. In my
experience, if you a write a brief business letter explaining your
qualifications, referring to relevant publication credits, and asking for
permission to submit a proposal, and if you send it to a publisher who puts
out work similar to yours, you will sometimes get a response, because they
know you're a professional.
