That's only with older systems.  I have an iBook (Macintosh) with O.S. 9.2 and O.S. X (partitioned) it includes everything to burn CD's.

Most drives when purchased retail are packaged with all of the necessary
software to fully use it.  However, since you have a Mac, you might have
to purchase the software separately.  (well, I suppose the Mac store
will have hardware that is packaged with Mac software)>>

My engineer son says you need to get TOAST for Macs.
