RE: Christmas gifts for the vegetable gardener

Andy,

There are beginners and experienced vegetable gardeners so here are two lists

For the beginner or newbie:

APS seed starting system from Gardener’s Supply Company, great for beginners

For a female beginner, I really like the gloves from Woman’s Work.

For the advanced:

Deluth Trading has a new line of Master’s Series gloves which Nancy and I both love.  Real tough, lots of different modelsl; I use the pair with the thumb and first two fingers bare for the summer then switch to a warmer full glove in winter.

Any of the really narrow high quality trowels.  Most gardeners have the regular sized trowel, but I find I use the real narrow one a lot.

My favorite new expensive tool is the Load Dumper wheelbarrow.  Only $225 but it holds 8 cubic feet of mulch.  There is a 6 cubic foot model as well.  I move a lot of mulch, wood chips, and straw, and the load dumper is a gem.  Go to http://www2.yardiac.com/long.asp?item_id=3956

Oh you have to love editors.  Have a Monday deadline for a short newspaper supplement on food and cooking that will be distributed between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  They think a short piece on gifts for the vegetable gardener would be nice.  Open and desperate for all ideas.
