Re: Christmas gifts for the vegetable gardener

A gift certificate or gift membership to the Seed Savers Exchange would give gardeners access to varieties they'll never see elsewhere. A year of the SSE publications (by getting the membership) can be fantastic reading. They sell a lot of their best varieties retail, now, too. See their website at: http://www.seedsavers.org/Home.asp
For the same thing in fruits, memberships to the North American Fruit Explorers (http://www.nafex.org) is great, and there are several other groups linked to their site.

Oh you have to love editors.  Have a Monday deadline for a short newspaper supplement on food and cooking that will be distributed between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  They think a short piece on gifts for the vegetable gardener would be nice.  Open and desperate for all ideas.
